To All Wildcat Track and Field Athletes, Parents, and Guardians:
Only 3 more weeks until we have our first official practice of the 2022 Track and Field season. Our season opens on March 14, 2022. Our first practice will begin at approximately 2:50 with the location to be determined. Hopefully, we will have good weather this spring so we can get out to the track right away.
If you are in a winter sport, there is nothing you need to do to begin preparation for the season. If you are not in a winter sport, or participating in Winter Eagan Trained, you should begin a general fitness routine to get your body ready for training. One of the biggest challenges we face each year is athletes entering the season not properly fit to begin training. While we don't expect you to be in peak condition, we will be pushing you beyond your current boundaries so need you to be ready for it.
If you are planning pre-season workouts, pay attention to your core. Body weight squats, planks, and balancing exercises will help develop a strong and stable core. This is a must for all athletes.
We recommend you have a good pair of training shoes for practice. Practicing in basketball shoes, or other types of shoes not designated as running or training shoes can cause a variety of physical problems, including certain nagging injuries that can impede your ability to train.
I can't wait for the season to begin!
