1. How many teams are formed?
In recent years we have had 3 or 4 teams:
• Varsity
• Junior Varsity
• Sophomore (10th grade)
• Freshman (9th grade)
2. What steps do we take before tryouts?
• Attend the Spring Kickoff meeting to learn more about the program and season
• Submit a current Sport Physical
• Register for the season using MyPaymentsPlus
• We encourage interested players to attend Captain's Practices
3. How long is the season?
The season runs from March through May with Varsity post-season play extending into June.
4. When are practices?
Every day after school during the season. There will also be some Saturday commitments.
5. Is there a booster club?
Yes, softball does have a booster club. The booster club is designed to support the coaching staff and the teams within the high school program. The booster club board decides on the budget for the year and facilitates events and activities during the season. Everyone is invited to attend booster club meetings.
6. What do we get for our booster club fee?
The booster club works hard each year to ensure all players benefit from booster club fees. Some common uses for booster money collected are:
Field improvements; dome rentals; batting cage rentals; assistant coach salaries; 2nd color jersey; banquet cost for players; special game events; player t-shirts and wristbands; Eagan Foundation scholarships, team equipment, etc.
7. What else should we know about the season?
It will be cold at the early season games. Sometimes VERY cold! It may be rainy. It could be cold AND rainy. Games will be played unless it is physically impossible due to unplayable field conditions. Dress appropriately and make sure your player has a white long sleeve undershirt under her jersey. Jackets can be worn to play in as long as there is a number on it identifying the player.
You may want to get more than one pair of white pants for weeks with multiple games. Your player should not wear her white pants to practice, wear other pants for practice!
Wear Eagan Softball or other Eagan gear to practices and games. Do not wear any jackets, shirts, sweatshirts, apparel or batting helmets with another team's logo on them.
Teams bus to away games. Sometimes the bus arrives at the field later than expected. If you get to the field and the team has not arrived - they are probably stuck in traffic. The team may not have much time to warm up. Parents are responsible for getting their player home - there is no return bus from away games.
It is a long season full of practices and games. The weather rarely cooperates. Sometimes the bus is late. Umpires may show up late. Opponents may arrive late. Games may start early with little notice. Encourage your player to remain flexible and not get bothered by these things.
Do not neglect academics or sleep during the season!
8. What fees are required?
The District 196 registration fee is the only required fee. You will also need to purchase a jersey if it is your first season playing high school softball. Jerseys are used for multiple seasons.
